About this srt to vtt converter

SRT and WebVTT carry the same information, timed lines of text, with small syntax differences. VTT starts with a WEBVTT header, uses a period before milliseconds (00:00:01.000) and does not need cue numbers. SRT numbers every cue and uses a comma (00:00:01,000).

HTML5 video players and most web platforms expect VTT, while video editors and YouTube accept SRT. This converter handles both directions, strips VTT-only extras such as NOTE and STYLE blocks and cue settings when going to SRT, and renumbers cues cleanly.

The conversion runs in your browser, so it is instant and private, and it works on files with thousands of cues.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
Both are plain-text subtitle formats. VTT (WebVTT) begins with a WEBVTT line, uses a period in timestamps and supports styling and positioning. SRT numbers each cue and uses a comma in timestamps. Players on the web use VTT; editors and YouTube take SRT.
Does converting lose any data?
Text and timings are preserved exactly. VTT-only styling, positioning and NOTE blocks have no SRT equivalent, so they are dropped when converting to SRT.
Can I convert VTT to SRT too?
Yes. Choose SRT as the output and paste or upload a VTT file.
Is my subtitle file uploaded?
No. The conversion is plain JavaScript running in your browser.
